Plate opposite page 220, Vol. II, in: Stedman, John Gabriel, 1744-1797. Narrative of a five years' expedition against the revolted Negroes of Surinam, in Guiana, on the wild coast of South America, from the year 1772, to 1777, elucidating the history of that country, and describing its productions, viz. quadrupedes, birds, fishes, reptiles, trees, shrubs, fruits, & roots.

Size of image: 19 x 14 cm

"The 81 plates are dated Dec. 1792, Dec. 1793, Dec. 1794, and Dec. 1795, and 39 have no engraver's name. Thirteen are signed "Blake Sculpt."; besides these, GEB & Keynes (1921) are confident that Blake also engraved the plates opposite volume 1, page 227; volume 2, page 104; and volume 2, page 296, which are not signed."--Cf. Bentley.

Of the other sixty-five plates 13 are signed by Barlow, 7 by T. Conder, 3 by Bartolozzi, 2 each by Benedetti and A. Smith, and 1 each by T. Holloway and Perry.
