Plate opposite page 341: Richardson, Samuel, 1689-1761. The history of Sir Charles Grandison, and the Hon. Miss Byron : in a series of letters. Volume II. Cooke's edition. London : Stereotyped and Printed for C. Cooke, by D. Cock, and Co., [1811?]
"The designs, dated 1811, are the same as those in the Novelist's magazine ed. of 1783, reduced and with some plates re-engraved." Cf. G.E. Bentley, Jr., A supplement to Blake books, Blake: an illustrated quarterly 43, v. 11, no. 3, winter 1977-1978, p. 149-150.
"The prints, with the same ornamental borders, have had the inscriptions altered; the plate-number is omitted, a new imprint is substituted for the old one, the names of the designer and engraver are re-lettered (and Stothard's name is sometimes misspelled), the epistle- and volume-numbers are added, and the scene is identified. In addition, the fading lines of the design have been re-entered and some of the costumes and hair-styles brought up to date, from c. 1770 to c. 1811." Cf. G.E. Bentley, Jr. Blake books supplement, p. 243.
All of the plates are engraved after designs by Stothard; three of the plates were engraved by William Blake.
