Francis Louis Barber (1877–1945) was a Victoria University Librarian, 1924–1945.

Lorne Albert Pierce (1890–1961) was the editor at the Ryerson Press and author of Marjorie Pickthall: A Book of Remembrance (1925). He donated framed photographs, books, and other materials to the Marjorie Pickthall special collection.

The item is part of the materials associated with an exhibition organized by Margaret Ray to commemorate the twenty-first anniversary of Marjorie Pickthall's death.

Lorne Pierce opened the exhibition on April 7, 1943 with a lecture, "Marjorie Pickthall: A Memorial Given at Victoria University, Toronto, April 7, 1943, In Commemoration of the Twenty-First Anniversary of the Poet's Death."
