Notes

Marjorie Pickthall trained in automobile mechanics during the winter 1915–1916, as she planned to work as an ambulance or a truck driver in her contribution to the war effort. Pickthall was not able to secure employment after the completion of the course, and she subsequently enrolled in a gardening course, and later worked as a secretary and market gardener.
